Super-rich parenting trend on the rise

The latest status symbol among the ultra-wealthy is not a private jet or a superyacht. It is a dedicated team of nannies, tutors, and lifestyle managers who handle nearly every aspect of raising a child. This trend, known as "squad parenting," sees affluent parents paying six-figure salaries to a rotating cast of professionals who take over the daily grind of childcare, from bath time and diaper changes to reading bedtime stories and driving to extracurricular activities.

For the families involved, the logic is simple: they have demanding careers and limited time. Instead of hiring a single nanny, they assemble a team. One person might specialize in early childhood development, another in nutrition and meal prep, and a third in sleep training and scheduling. A separate night nurse ensures the parents get uninterrupted rest. The cost can easily exceed $200,000 a year, a sum that covers salaries, benefits, and often a separate living space for the staff.

Critics argue that this approach creates a distant relationship between parent and child, outsourcing the very moments that build a bond. Supporters counter that it allows parents to be more present and less stressed during the limited time they do spend with their children. The practice is most common in major cities like New York, London, and Los Angeles, where agencies now specialize in vetting and assembling these personalized teams. For the super-rich, it seems, the ultimate luxury is not having to do the hard parts of parenting at all.
