Nearly 100 men graduated on Tuesday from the National Parenting Support Commission's Men Who Mentor Programme, finishing a training course aimed at strengthening parenting support and expanding male mentorship across Jamaica. The ceremony took place at Celebration Church in Portmore, St Catherine, honoring participants who successfully completed the structured program.
The initiative equips men with practical parenting skills, mentorship techniques, and hands-on fieldwork experience. Its goal is to promote healthier relationships between parents and their children. Organizers say the program addresses a need for more male role models in family life and community settings across the island.
Graduates spent time learning how to guide other fathers and support families facing challenges. The training covers communication strategies, conflict resolution, and ways to build trust with children. Many of the new mentors plan to work in their own neighborhoods, offering guidance to young fathers and families in need of support.
The NPSC has emphasized that male involvement in parenting leads to better outcomes for children, including improved school performance and emotional stability. Officials hope the program will continue to grow, drawing more men into mentorship roles and changing the way fatherhood is viewed in Jamaican society.
