When my son was diagnosed with severe epilepsy, the future felt uncertain and frightening. The seizures came without warning, disrupting sleep, school, and every plan we tried to make. I worried constantly about his safety and what his life might look like. Yet over time, he showed me something I did not expect. He lives with a scary epilepsy diagnosis, but he does not live scared.
His approach to each day changed how I see happiness. I used to think joy depended on things going well, on stability and control. He taught me that happiness can exist even when life is hard and unpredictable. He laughs at small jokes, finds wonder in ordinary moments, and greets each morning without dread. His courage is not loud or dramatic. It is quiet and steady, and it reshaped my understanding of what it means to be strong.
Watching him navigate seizures, hospital visits, and medication changes has been painful. But it has also revealed a kind of resilience I never knew existed. He does not let his condition define him. Instead, he keeps moving forward, taking each day as it comes. That lesson stays with me. Happiness is not the absence of struggle. It is the choice to keep living fully, even when fear is present.
