SHREVEPORT, La. - Fathers On A Mission held its regular monthly gathering on Tuesday, drawing in fathers and father figures from across the community. The focus of the session was a deep look at childhood and the lasting impact it has on how men raise their own children.
The meeting moved beyond typical parenting advice and into personal reflection. Attendees shared stories about their own upbringings, discussing both the positive examples they try to follow and the difficult experiences they work hard not to repeat. Organizers said the goal was to help men understand that their past does not have to define their future as a parent.
One father described learning patience by remembering how his own father never listened. Another talked about breaking a cycle of harsh discipline by choosing to talk through problems with his kids instead. The room was quiet during some of the more personal shares, with many men nodding in recognition.
The group plans to continue these conversations in future meetings, offering a space where fathers can be honest about their struggles and victories. For many in attendance, Tuesday night was a reminder that being a good father often starts with healing the child that still lives inside them.
